Hello friends,
Welcome to my blog today, I am calling you ‘friends’ because I have had some kind of connection with almost every single one of you over the years.
I’m letting photo fans out there know that Brighton Photo Fringe is taking place now throughout October across Brighton & Hove, Newhaven and Portsmouth with lens-based projects springing up everywhere alongside the Photoworks Festival. Sorry if you live across the ocean and the idea of catching a plane is a stretch.
Photographers, artists, collectives and community groups are showing their work in all kinds of venues, in galleries, community venues, cafés, seafront spaces, empty shops and unexpected sites across the Sussex. This year’s festival celebrates the theme Feed back Loop.
What on at The Old School Studios
A mix of artists responding to the theme of ‘Between’.
I am showing two pieces from a project I have been dedicated to for a few years.
This work is a visual conversation between generations shaped by my Scottish, Indian/Pakistani roots, and my American family.
In the face of heated debates on migration and immigrants I am looking at what connects us. More on this in a future blog.
I am drawn to looking at our patterns of behaviour, ways of making a home, cultural identity, and how old family aspirations and experiences are inherited within us.
The starting point for the images are original family snap shots found in a shoebox.
I add paint and collage directly onto the original small photographs offering a new perspective on moments from the past.
The past and present are joined within a single image.
The energy I put into theses is that we are all connected no matter our history.

Thanks Meg do visit if you are in town there are over 30 artists to see and it’s a beautiful building with tiles on the floor.
Very interesting and emotional work Moosie. I love it! Very personal
Thanks you so much Catherine! It is personal you are right, I feel that the more I talk to people the more I know my feelings are not personal to only me.
Beautiful Moose as always, your creativity astounds. “Three Generations” so warrants “between” as the moments become etched and absorbed in our journey. Unfortunately our visit is a few days late to attend. xx
Love your word ‘ etched ‘ Julie it’s a good one and if you don’t etch what happens, memory is a mysterious thing. I will show you “Three generations” when you visit, I feel close to it.
Hi Moose
I’d love to see your work . I plan to pop up on Saturday 24th .
I see you’ll be there all day .
X
Brilliant Nefiessa I will only be there until 2.45 now – not whole day anymore ! I think you will love the building
