A note of thanks to all of you who were able to make the trek to Brighton for our Photo Fringe show, my Mother Daughter and Bathing Season with Tolly Robinson.
It was such a treat to see you and to feel your support, my cup was filled as they say.
For those who could not make it, here are some photos from that weekend, including a couple from setting up. We had a visit from Photo Oxford, Natasha Caruana and the Peckham 24 crew .
Siân Berry, our local Green MP also paid us a visit, see the photo of her with Tolly.
I’ll be honest with you, showing My Mum’s Nighties was not the easiest thing to do. This is a deeply personal project that touches on a heavy subject matter most of us find challenging to navigate. Sharing such intimate aspects of my experience in a public space brought up a lot of emotions.
However I’m truly grateful for the way the exhibition seemed to have created a space for many thought-provoking conversations. Hearing your reflections, stories, and kind words reminded me of the power of art to connect us, even in the midst of difficult topics.
I am also showing a screenshot here from Nicholas Nixon’s Brown Sisters which you may also find interesting especially if you enjoyed my One a Day for a Year project.
QUOTE from NYT. – ‘Nicholas Nixon was visiting his wife’s family when, “on a whim,” he said, he asked her and her three sisters if he could take their picture.’ This became a tradition that spanned 40 years.
The series, which has been shown around the world over the past four decades, “The Brown Sisters: Forty Years” book was published in 2014.
Take care of yourselves,
