The sum of my mum’s photos sit neatly in a green Clarks shoes box, some even have precise short handwritten descriptions on the back. On the other hand, my dad’s photos are scattered and mysterious. I have photos of family members I am sure I am meant to recognise, but I don’t.
These photos are part of an ongoing project I have been working on slowly since 2020. Using photographs left behind by my parents in combination with my own, I am making new images. The photos are not touched by AI or photo software. Working intuitively, some images take a day to make and some are almost instant.
There is comfort in making these prints. They keep me connected to my ancestors.
What thoughts bubble up for you when you think of all the places your family have descended from….

Very evocative! Are you making these all in the darkroom? How wonderful.
Moose, I am curious to know more about the process and the stories that these beautiful pictures you’ve made are telling. I love double exposures, and family photos have a special place in my heart, and to see how you are playing with time and place is inspiring to me.
Moose, they’re wonderful. I remember seeing some of them before, and they moved me then as much as they do now. There’s a delicacy to them that’s so beautiful, so poignant. I loved the titles too, and noticed that the first one of you as a child was untitled. What came to my mind was ‘the threshold of memory’ xxx
Wonderful dear Moose. j xox
